| We have an Ingersoll Rand ([ http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200051674_200051674 ]) Impact and I would put it as my favorite tool purchase. I have owned 2 other 1/2 drive impacts and they hold nothing on this IR. It is expensive, but I have yet to do a job that it can't. It is truly a great tool and worth every penny. I think the general rule is to not operate air tools above the 90-105 PSI range. As long as you keep that in mind, and oil the tool regularly, it should perform great. As compressors are concerned you will need something to back it. We have a campbell hausfeld 6.25HP oiled compressor and a 28 gallon tank. It works well, but is a little loud when running. I plan on building a sound enclosure for it and dropping hardlines throughout our shop to help that out. If I could do it all again, I would realy like to step up to a 60+ gallon tank, but thats gets more costly and might be overkill. We bought the compressor at lowes or home depot for 35% off because of a cracked motor vent cover. I welded up a new one and it works great. Hope you can find some good equipment yourself, maybe even try used stuff from a local craigslist. Good luck with the DIY's.
